(1) Is your company Non-denominational? If not, what faith is primarily practiced?
Yes, Gratitude is an inter-denominational Protestant ministry of Christian believers. We adhere to our statement of faith. Differing opinions on worship, prayer, spiritual gifts, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the topic of predestination are not core gospel saving theology and so, one may find a range of convictions for each of those topics, and Gratitude as a whole holds these as open-handed theologies even if the director or a dancer
would have differing views. Our primary focus is on Christ’s perfect life, death, and resurrection, salvation for thosewho repent, and the work of the Spirit to sanctify us and produce fruit until the day our Lord returns.
(2) What would the weekly schedule and year be like for a dancer?
A Performing Artists should be prepared to dance around 14-20 hours a week and we start end of agust early septmeber and end around last week to first week of June.
Company members however are required to stay for SDI but Apprentices are not.
(3) Is it possible for apprentices to pursue an educational degree at the same time?
Yes! Many Dancers in programs like this are also part-time and sometimes full-time students online. it’s up to the ambition and discipline of the dancer.
(4) How long would the commitment be for an apprentice?
An apprentice is expected to commit to one full dance season at a time. The program’s goal is to prepare dancers within two years to either transition to other ministries, dance companies or to join GPA’s Company.
(5) What if me or my dancer are not accepted? What advice would you have for a someone who might want to try again?
My personal advice is to keep trying. A dancer's work ethic shines through perseverance and dedication to growth, and we look for these qualities in this company. If you're afraid to “fail,” that fear will hinder your success; it stems from pride. Humility is essential for trying without fear of failure. Remember, your identity is not in how well you do or don’t do, it is in Christ, and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. Freedom to grow without fear oof failure.
Don't get discouraged. Consider recording videos during classes to help you learn alongside the instructor. Private lessons can also be beneficial. Set small, achievable goals to work towards. I'm happy to share the audition notes we took to assist students. It can be disheartening not to get into a company, especially when you're unsure of what to improve.
(6) Is there an age cut-off for an apprentice?
No at the moment it will be case by case.
(7) Where do the dancers live?
The Dancer's ideally live with other company members in either a rental home or apartment. Some dancers may choose to also stay with family or even host homes etc... but this is rare.
